The port of Antwerp: more than ever the engine of the Flemisch economy
PRECONDITIONS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PORT
Antwerp is the second-largest port in Europe. But despite the significant advantages by its location and multimodal connections, Antwerp's current position can not be taken for granted, as freight is becoming more and more 'footloose" in the market. The existing connections between maritime transhipment, trade, industry and logistics services offer the best possibilities for actually binding freight to Antwerp.
To bring about the sustainable development of the port of Antwerp, Alfaport Antwerpen sees five preconditions as being essential:
Timely investment in infrastructure
A modern, flesible labour force tailored to the needs of companies
Space for sustainable enterprise
Bringing the sypply of training into balance with the demand for labour in the port
A secure port
THE MISSION OF ALFAPORT ANTWERPEN
Alfaport Antwerpen strives to ensure that these five preconditons are met, so that the port can become the spearhead of Logistics Flanders and further develop into a logistics hub of worldwide importance. This in turn will lead to additional employment and create more added value.
In THAT WAS 2009 you can read the initiatives Alfaport Antwerpen has taken to accomplish this misson.
